The Play/List

A Feature length Teen Movie set in Suburban Australia

When their parents go away for the week, Siblings Will and Jesse decide to live out every Teen Movie trope they can.

Story

Will is 18 and in his final year of high school, Jesse is 13 and just beginning her high school journey. Jesse is a movie buff and loves teen movies in particular, religiously. So, when she and her brother are told that their parents are going away for a week, she recognizes this as the set up to every teen movie ever and convinces her brother that they must live out the fantasies of all the teenagers before them. Will, however, is more concerned with finishing school and making sure his ATAR is high enough to get into the course he wants, and only agrees when Jesse tells Will she can help him with his crush; a girl at school named Anne.

The Soundtrack for this film is vital to the overall feel of the film. It’s something I’ve been cultivating and working on over a few years since I first conceptualized the idea just after I left high school. I want this strong Aussie indie music focus that plays a similar role in this film as the music in the Film Baby Driver to a lesser degree. Music is something that defines many teenagers and I want to reflect that in the film. Artists like Ball Park Music, Spacey Jane, The Jungle Giants, Tame Impala, Alex Lahey, Client Liaison and more are just some of the artists I would ideally like featured on the soundtrack. This will make the film unique and give it an original tone that different from other films in the genre right now. Certain scenes play out like a music video and others let the music talk for the characters. A full spotify playlist of the type of music I’ve been collecting for the film can be found here:
